Born and partly raised on the east side of Detroit, I learned early on what resilience looks like. I began my education at Clark Elementary School before my mother made the life-changing decision to relocate our family to Lansing. It was there that I completed my education from the fifth grade through high school (Waverly School District) —an experience that taught me firsthand what it means to start over, adapt, and rebuild.

I later continued my education at the historically Black college and university, Tennessee State University, where I further developed my passion for growth, advocacy, and understanding the complexities of people’s lived experiences. Then, I attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School and earned my Juris Doctor. I failed the bar exam seven times before finally obtaining my law license. Now, I practice law in Michigan and Florida, handling personal injury cases.

Like many people, my life story has not been without its challenges. I experienced a difficult and toxic marriage that ultimately ended in divorce. During that painful chapter of my life, I also faced legal challenges, including being arrested and navigating a domestic violence injunction case. Those experiences were humbling, eye-opening, and transformative.

They also taught me something powerful: many of us carry stories of hardship, relocation, broken relationships, and rebuilding. My journey has allowed me to see life from multiple perspectives—not just professionally, but personally.

Because of this, I don’t approach people’s situations from a place of judgment. I approach them from a place of understanding.

I know what it feels like to have your life turned upside down. I know what it means to rebuild after toxic relationships, difficult legal battles, and major life transitions. And that is why the work I do today is rooted in compassion, truth, and the belief that people deserve support while they navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

In many ways, I am more like the people I serve than I am different. My story is not just one of struggle—it is one of growth, resilience, and the courage to keep moving forward.
